Portrait 1
“It’s the feeling you get sometimes,” Danny said. His face shrank and his eyes grew when he said it so that his eyes were all Ahmed could see. “I know the feeling,” Ahmed responded, although he didn’t. He couldn’t look at Danny anymore, who couldn’t hear him in any case.
This is what Danny heard: “Wa wa waa”
Portrait 2
Patrick understood. That’s when his voice emerged from the back of his head which made it sound like he was speaking through the ocean on a wave. “Tegucigalpa,” he said. “Yes, of course,” responded Ahmed. “Yes, I agree,” Danny’s eyeballs said.
Portrait 3 Then they smiled at Ahmed and the back of Patrick’s head. To Ahmed, the smile looked more like holes in the bottoms of Danny’s eyes than a smile. Patrick’s head thought so too. “I put my pants on just like everyone else,” it said, to politely change the subject.
